Deer Processing - 2017-18 season

We participate in Iowa's HUSH deer program.

Deer Processing Cut-Sheet 

Story City Locker will accept deer carcasses for processing if they are:
  • Carcasses gutted with the hide on, or bone in trim (a $100 deposit is required), or
  • Carcasses de-boned (A $50 deposit is required. De-boned carcass is not accepted between March 1st and September 1st.)


Processing Price List 


Deer Carcass -                    100.00
Includes cutting / grinding, wrapping in poly and paper, and freezing.  Our processing fee also includes skinning, clean up, and carcass offal disposal.

De-Boned Carcass -            0.50 per pound (A $50 minimum applies to de-boned carcass processing.)
Includes grinding, wrapping in poly and paper, and freezing.

Trim Clean Up -                    25.00
Trim with hair, dirt, leaves, etc... we reserve the right to add this fee to your invoicing if clean up of your trim is required.  Our tolerance for dirty trim is no dirty trim.


Cape Deer Hide -                 50.00
Your hide must be picked up within one week of drop off, or it will be disposed of after one week.

Removing Antler -               5.00
Please ask for the atlers when you drop off your deer.  We will get them immediately.  Antlers not taken immediately are disposed of and cannot be retrieved.

Individualized Value-Add Production Fee -               25.00
Value-Add processing is batched with other processing customers unless you specify a preference for us to process your value-add items individually, separate from all others. Your harvest is weighed and the equivalent weight of the value-add products you select below are included with your processing order.

An average deer will yield 40-50 lbs. of meat.

Ground Deer

  • Straight Deer - .65 per lb.
    • Add Beef - 1.55 per lb.
    • Add Pork - 1.25 per lb.
    • Add Bacon - 1.55 per lb.
    • Add Tallow - .70 per lb.
  • Bacon Burgers - 2.20 per lb., 10 lb. minimum for non-batched processing
  • Breakfast Sausage - 2.25 per lb. (bulk only), 10 lb. minimum for non-batched processing

Summer Sausage, 25 lb. minimum for non-batched processing

  • Original - 3.55 per lb.
  • w/ Cheese - 3.75 per lb.
  • w/ Cheese & Jalapeno - 3.90 per lb.

Snack Sticks, 25 lb. minimum for non-batched processing

  • Original - 3.45 per lb.
  • w/ Cheese - 4.00 per lb.
  • w/ Cheese & Jalapeno - 4.15 per lb.
  • BBQ - 4.00 per lb.

Jerky, 10 lb. minimum for non-batched processing

  • Whole Muscle (piece jerky) - 5.15 per lb.

Smoked Products, 25 lb. minimum for non-batched processing

  • Ring Bologna - 4.20 per lb.
  • Ring Bologna with Cheese - 4.55 per lb.
  • Ring Bologna with Cheese & Jalapeno - 4.60 per lb.

Additional Information

Deer is processed in the order it's received at the locker.
We strive to complete all bow season hide-on drop offs by January 1st.
We strive to complete all shotgun season hide-on drop offs by March 1st. 
We strive to complete all de-boned drop offs by March 1st.  (De-boned carcass is not accepted between March 1st and September 1st.)

We reserve the right to refuse any carcass or trim not properly handled.  Treating your venison with care will yield a higher quality product.

All processed deer must be picked up and paid for in full within ten days after you receive a call or postal notice that it is ready.  Deer not picked up within ten days will be subject to a $20 weekly storage fee.
